La Jolie Longère Fleurie is ideally located 20 mns from the Marais Poitevin,

30 mns from the historic city of Rochefort,

25 mns from Ile de Ré,

20 mns from La Rochelle airport,

30 mns from the historic and commercial heart of La Rochelle or the beaches of Châtelaillon.

Access is very easy, either via the ring road, coming down from Niort, 4 minutes away from the house, or via inland roads (towards Rochefort or the Marais Poitevin, for example).

The Marais Poitevin is a wonder of the world, typical of the "slow tourism" we love: once you are there, you take a boat ride under the trees, along the famous canals, and enjoy a simple meal in the shade of the alders, poplars and ashes. Enough to keep you busy for a whole day.

La Rochelle, a historic, maritime, cultural and student city, is the vibrant heart of the region.

Take a stroll along the harbour, through the narrow streets and parks, look at the boats (no yachts in this part of the world) and let yourself be carried away by the majesty of the place, and you'll understand why La Rochelle is one of France's most popular cities.

Watch out for the crowds, though, the price of fame...

The city is best discovered out of season, or at weekends, or in the mornings.

Centers of interest :

in addition to the ports (Old port and Minimes), the historic old town or the

parks, the Museum of Protestantism, the Aquarium or the Cité maritime are worth a visit ; don’t miss of course the rugby matches of the local team, champions of Europe in 2022 and 2023,

the Stade Rochelais. Watch the games on television, in one of the many lively bars in the city, because it has become very difficult to find tickets.

Ile de Ré is renowned for its fine sandy beaches, its (in season) daily markets in each of the 10 villages of the island, its cycle paths, its numerous shops and restaurants and its sunsets.

As with La Rochelle, it is best to discover these magic places and appreciate the beautiful light, out of season, or outside weekends in season or even in the morning.

Rochefort is also a historic town. Place Carnot, the Museum of ancient shops and stores, the arsenal and the Corderie royale (and its fantastic bookstore, dedicated to the sea, sailing and history) will catch your attention.

The castle of Buzay , the medieval castle of Surgères , or that of La Roche Courbon  are also worth a visit.
